Fetching the Bride

Bride Walking along Celebration Confetti

On the wedding day morning, the Groom will bring his entourage to fetch the Bride at the Bride's place. They will go through a series of games and activities during gate-crashing as the bridesmaids attempt to make them 'suffer' before the Groom can see his Bride.

A Tray of Oranges with Nappy Red Packet

Traditionally, a Nappy Red Packet is prepared by the Groom during wedding day, and together with a tray of oranges, he will hand over to the Bride's mother. It is to show gratitude and filial piety to the Bride's mother for bringing her daughter up.

The Nappy Red Packet is included in our Betrothal (Guo Da Li) Package or you may get it ala-carte here.

Bride Sheltered with Red Umbrella

A matchmaker, or the Bride's father, will be the one holding a red umbrella as he shelters his daughter to the wedding car, giving her the blessings of having a good marriage life. The red umbrella is then handed over to the Bride, where she will keep it well for the rest of her life.

Bride Waiting to Toss Out the Wedding Fan

A Hokkien and Teochew tradition, the Bride will toss a wedding hand-held fan out of the wedding car before moving off to the Groom's place. This symbolises throwing away of bad habits as the Bride marries over the Groom's family with good virtues. Either the Bride's mother or siblings will pick up the fan.

Bride Holding to a Fan Wrapped with Red Handkerchief

A Teochew tradition, the Bride will bring along a hand-held fan wrapped with a red handkerchief as she and the Groom make their way to the Groom's place for Tea Ceremony. As the Bride enters the house, she will open up the fan, symbolising abundance for the newlyweds as they start a family.
